Cancer is the unchecked development in the body of abnormal cells. When the old cells do not die, cancer grows out of control, forming new, abnormal cells. Such extra cells, called a tumor, may form a mass of tissue. Cancer can happen anywhere in the body. Breast cancer is among the most common among women.
