Cancer Stem Cells

Cancer Stem Cells Photo

Cancer stem cells are turning into a prominent focus of cancer research. Because scientists believe that they may be integral to tumor formation. A growing body of evidence indicates, however, that a subset of cancer cells, called cancer stem cells (CSCs), may hold a key to controlling cancer and potentially achieving durable clinical responses. Tumour development must be started by a subset of cells known as cancer stem cells (CSCs), which can self-renew and differentiate into non-tumorigenic offspring that involve the tumor mass. Therefore, the finding of specific therapies targeted at CSCs holds hope for improvement of survival and quality of life of cancer patients, especially for patients with metastatic disease. Researchers are using modified stem cells as a breast cancer treatment option.
