Session on Cell Fate Determination:

Cell Fate Determination is mainly focused to understand how a particular cell (or embryo) develops into the final cell type (or organism), essentially how a cell's fate is determined. The development of new molecular tools including GFP and major advances in imaging technology including fluorescence microscopy have made possible the mapping of the cell lineage of Caenorhabditis elegans including its embryo. This technique of fate mapping is used to study cells as they differentiate into their final cell fates. Merely observing a cell as it becomes differentiated during embryogenesis provides no indication of the mechanisms that drive the specification. Therefore, the addition of molecular manipulation techniques, including gene and protein knock downs, knock outs and overexpression, along with live cell imaging techniques has been transformational in understanding what mechanisms are involved with cell fate determination.

Session on Cell Cycle:

The cell cycle is the sequence of events that occur in a cell leading to its division and duplication (replication) that produces two daughter cells. In unicellular organisms which lack a cell nucleus, the cell cycle takes place by a process called binary fission. In normal cells, the cell cycle is controlled by a complex series of signaling pathways by which a cell grows, replicates its DNA and divides. The Cell Cycle or Cell-division Cycle is a vital process by which a single-celled fertilized egg develops into a mature organism, again the process by which hair, skin, blood cells, and some internal organs are revived.

Stem cell therapy is a promising methodology for overcoming the impediments of current treatment strategies. Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) is used to treat various diseases by using stem cells. These stem cells can be taken from various sources based on their origin and used to conceivably treat more than 75 diseases, including neuromuscular and degenerative diseases. This Stem cell therapy enables the scientist to isolate and culture Embryonic stem(ES) cells, to produce stem cells by a technique called as somatic cell nuclear transfer to create the induced pluripotent stem cells.

Session on Stem Cell banking

Stem cell banking offers the opportunity to cryogenically save Stem Cells at their most intense state for later use in these applications. Stem cells are discovered and used from different regions of the body such as the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and the umbilical cord. Among these sources, Umbilical cord blood is thought to be a prepared wellspring of stem cells and can be protected amid labor and used for pharmaceuticals when required. Stem cells taken from the blood in the remaining segment of the umbilical cord and placenta are known as umbilical cord blood (UCB) stem cells and the process of collecting it is called an umbilical cord banking. stem cells extracted from cord blood are utilized proficiently in the treatment of blood-related conditions, for example, Thalassemia, Leukemia, Lymphoma, Neuroblastoma and many more. Hence saving cord blood are used to save many lives. cord blood stem cells have been utilized for more than 25 years in 35000 transplants over the world.

Session on Adult Stem Cells

Adult stem cells are also called as somatic stem cells. These stem cells are used to maintain and repair the tissue in which they are found. They are found in children as well as adults. There are different types of adult stem cells based on their origin of tissue. Pluripotent adult stem cells which can be found in umbilical cord blood and other tissues. Bone marrow is very rich in adult stem cells. The quantity of bone marrow stem cells declines with age and is greater in males than females during the reproductive year. Adult stem cell treatments have been effectively utilized for a long time to treat leukemia and related bone/blood diseases through bone marrow transplants. Adult stem cells are likewise utilized as a part of veterinary pharmaceutical to treat ligament and tendon injuries in horses.

Session on Embryonic Stem Cells:

Human Embryonic stem (ES) cells catch the creative ability since they are Immortal and have a relatively unlimited developmental potential. Embryonic stem (ES) cells are the cells of the inner cell mass of a blastocyst, an early stage embryo. These Embryonic stem cells are produced from embryos created by in vitro fertilization (IVF), a procedure in which oocytes and sperm are put together to allow fertilization to occur in a culture dish. By these procedures, scientists have produced some basic protocols for the direct differentiation of embryonic stem cells into specific cell types. These resulting cells produced from Embryonic stem cells can be used for treating diseases include diabetes, traumatic spinal cord injury, Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, heart disease, and vision and hearing loss.

Tissue engineering is an emerging interdisciplinary field, occupying a major position in the regenerative medicine that aims at restoring lost or damaged tissues and organs with use of cells. Session on Pluripotent Stem Cells

Pluripotent Stem Cells are master cells.
